The Machinist

The Machinist is an intriguing movie to behold.  If you've ever suffered from bouts of insomnia or occasionally questioned your sanity, you can relate to this film.

Amazingly and unexpectedly a moral traipse through the mind's psyche, it also serves to startle and question the integrity of perception.

Memory is subjective.  The way we recall things isn't always the same way they happened in actuality.

An amazing watch if you've been up for a while due to insomnia.

SUPER

SUPER is a darkly comedic drama movie.  First appearances lead one to believe it'll be full of senseless gore and bad-natured humor.  In reality, although it has its share of over-the-top senseless gore, and funny moments, it's not really a funny movie.  It's deeper, surprisingly.

While exploring right vs. wrong/good vs. bad, it also explores humanity, and what can make one man tick, and make one man snap.  It's sad and happy at the same time, as its extremely easy to empathize with the main character.

Definitely suggested.

28 Weeks Later

28 Weeks Later is a "zombie" movie sequel without your typical, traditional class of zombies.  Not the shambling braineaters you may have once been accustomed to, the zombies in this film's franchise are savage and bloodthirsty solely for violence.  Think of rabid baboons...on steroids.

Very good movie on the whole, relation to its predecessor, 28 Days Later, obvious and natural.  A little family element thrown in, scares here and there, and a good bit of action.  A pretty cool movie in general.

Mebbe some sort of sequel set in the works.

Super Eruption

Super Eruption is a Syfy original movie.  If you have any familiarity with Syfy original movies, you know they focus on the absurd and campy.  And this was no exception.

Centered around a "super eruption" occurring at Yellowstone National Park, a scientist on site is contacted by herself...from the future.  One thing leads to another, stuff starts blowing up, danger ensues, the world is saved.

Nothing novel in terms of the disaster movie, but something to kill time with if you're bored and/or interested in the subject matter...once.  Def wouldn't recommend a re-watch.

Zombieland

Zombieland was a pretty sweet movie.  I'm generally a fan of zombie movies in general, as well as comedies, and this was the perfect synthesis.  With a fair balance of gore and humor, this movie shone.

But that's not all it had, it managed a feel-good tone as well.  With the ending, loose ends were tied up, you felt good about the characters, and it left it open-ended enough to sport a sequel, but not so open-ended that it was aggravating.

Eden Log

Eden Log was...interesting to say the least.  I've read about this movie before, forgotten about it for a long time, and then finally got around to watching it.

Going in with no idea what it was about, it was a bit of a ride.  Extremely claustrophobic atmospheres coupled with low lighting and minimal dialogue creates an eerie ambience as the viewer learns what's going on simultaneously with the protagonist.

Artsy, slightly confusing, and very well-made, it's worth a watch for sure.  Might not be right for everybody, but for those it clicks with, it'll be awesome.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas is absurdly funny and confounding.  Centered around a drug-addled reporter and his lawyer in Las Vegas doing work, they bounce from one muddled state to the next, while providing deep insight into the American Dream and culture revolving.

I had the fortune of reading the book first, and I was not disappointed with how the movie was adapted.  Reading the book relatively recently beforehand helped me understand what was ultimately going on I believe.
